Sargent Baker Update: August 2020

They say they are silver linings to everything, and Sarge has been mine during the COVID pandemic. I was furloughed from my job, but fortunately because Sarge lives with us at our farm I was able to spend some really focused time with him for many months.

One of my favorite things about Sarge is that he is totally Game On for whatever new thing we do together. He is so much fun!

He is happily walk-trot-cantering (reliably on both leads). He is learning half-halts and accepting contact. He is just now learning to lift his back (it is hard work!), and he comes out every session ready to work. I have been jumping every week over small logs in the field or cross-Xs in the lawn. He had his third jump lesson last week away from home and finished up with a double-bounce line! What a star! Or as my instructor said, “He’s Super ‘Stang!”

As a final note, I compiled a list of some of his likes and dislikes.

Likes: eating, any & all attention, being vacuumed & groomed, eating, ear scritches, being curried, eating, hanging out with his little mini friends Jiffy & Bean, and (oh-did-I-mention?) eating...

Dislikes: ha! None known!
