Donate a Horse
The EquiCenter owns or leases 23 therapy horses of various breeds who often join our team following careers such as show horses, pleasure horses, foxhunters, and even police horses. Each therapy horse must undergo a comprehensive 30-60 day trial process during which staff and volunteers train and acclimate the horse to the program. At the conclusion of the trial, the horse is evaluated for acceptance into the program.
Criteria for Donating or Leasing Your Horse to the EquiCenter:
• Age 5-15
• Even temperament
• Willing disposition
• Sound
• Even, flowing stride
Original owners have first right of refusal upon a horse’s retirement from the program due to reasons that make the horse no longer suitable for therapeutic riding. For horse donation information, please contact Lindsay Alberts, Program Manager at (585) 624-7777 or lalberts@equicenterny.org.
Thank you for supporting EquiCenter!
